Manchester United has reportedly ramped up its efforts to sign Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui. Initially keeping a low profile on the matter, the Red Devils have now entered into negotiations, according to insider Fabrizio Romano.
Mazraoui, who had been waiting hopeful for an offer from Manchester United while keeping West Ham’s €19 million bid on hold, may soon see his patience rewarded. The English club has purportedly held discussions with Mazraoui’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, to potentially finalize the transfer.
Additionally, Manchester United is concurrently working on the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Offloading Wan-Bissaka would clear the way for Mazraoui to take over the right-back position. Recently, intermediaries have suggested a swap deal involving Wan-Bissaka and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries. This move is under consideration as United is also on the hunt for a new central defender to replace the Frenchman Raphaël Varane.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, “Manchester United have held talks with agent Rafaela Pimenta for both de Ligt and Mazraoui. Mazraoui wants Manchester United, but the move depends on Wan-Bissaka’s future. United and Inter have been offered a Dumfries/Wan-Bissaka swap by intermediaries and also considered Vanderson.”
Following two seasons at Bayern Munich, one of which ended trophy-less for the Bavarian giants for the first time since 2012, Mazraoui is eager for a fresh start. Valued at €30 million by Transfermarkt, the player, whose contract runs until June 2026, could be acquired for a reduced fee of €15-20 million. If the transfer materializes, it would be a significant move for Mazraoui, highlighting his career with the illustrious Manchester United.
