Morocco Sets Out on Paris 2024 Olympic Journey with Clash Against Argentina
Morocco will kick off their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics by facing Argentina this Wednesday at 3 PM local time (1 PM GMT and 2 PM Morocco time) at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard in Saint-Etienne.
Local talent Benjamin Bouchouari, a player for ASSE, starts on the bench, as does Ez Abde, despite being a key figure in this generation and having excelled during the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which served as a qualifier for the Olympics. The Betis Seville winger may be paying the price for his late release from his club.
Coach Tarik Sektioui has leaned on expected stalwarts, including the three over-age players Munir El Kajoui, Achraf Hakimi, and Soufiane Rahimi, who all feature in the starting lineup, alongside senior national team players Oussama El Azzouzi, Oussama Targhalline, and Amir Richardson in the midfield. Bilal El Khannouss takes on a creative role, with Eliesse Ben Seghir and Ilias Akhomach on the wings.
This lineup is highly offensive, featuring just three recognized defenders: central defender Mehdi Boukamir and full-backs Hakimi and Zakaria El Ouahdi. It appears that Targhalline will move back into central defense. On the opposing side, stars Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Thiago Almada start for Argentina.
