Atlético Madrid Reportedly Interested in Moroccan Star Nayef Aguerd After Hancko Deal Stalls
As talks regarding Slovakian defender David Hancko slow down, Atlético Madrid has reportedly shifted its focus towards Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd. The 28-year-old defender, who currently plays for West Ham and has 47 caps and 1 goal for his national team, has caught the eye of the Spanish club as they seek to strengthen their central defense.
Foot Mercato highlights that Aguerd’s situation at West Ham may facilitate a potential move. The Moroccan, known as the “Lion of the Atlas,” is experiencing a period of uncertainty at the Premier League club and seems open to exploring new opportunities.
The obstacle in negotiations arose when a proposed deal involving French international Jean-Clair Todibo fell through. Atlético Madrid has entered the fray as they seek to secure Aguerd’s services. Discussions are reportedly underway, but there is a significant stumbling block: Atlético prefers a loan with an option to buy, while West Ham is looking for a permanent transfer or a loan with a mandatory purchase obligation.
Foot Mercato reports that West Ham is seeking around €20 million for Aguerd. While several clubs are said to be interested, Lille is not among them, contrary to earlier reports. The French club, the article clarifies, cannot meet Aguerd’s salary demands and is not in the running.
As Aguerd is contracted with West Ham until 2027, the coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether a deal can be struck. This development is closely watched as it involves one of the key players favored by Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui.
