After the Record, Concerns Arise for Rahimi…

Soufiane Rahimi Shines Despite Injury Woes in Paris 2024 Olympics

Soufiane Rahimi, one of the over-23 players selected to represent Morocco’s Olympian Lion Cubs, has left an indelible mark on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His participation in Tuesday’s crucial match against Iraq, however, remains uncertain.

Rahimi’s journey in the tournament began spectacularly with a brace against Argentina in their opening match, leading Morocco to a 2-1 victory. He continued his scoring streak in their subsequent 1-2 defeat against Ukraine, bringing his tally to three goals in the competition. This remarkable performance has seen him equaled with Ahmed Faras as Morocco’s co-top scorer in Olympic history, a record set during the 1972 Munich Games.

The Moroccan international, who boasts 10 caps and 1 goal for his national team, now has the chance to surpass Faras by scoring in the imminent face-off against Iraq. However, this opportunity hangs in the balance as Rahimi sustained an injury during the Ukraine match. Despite his resilience, playing until the 87th minute, he was seen leaving the stadium limping and with a bandaged foot. According to Hesport, medical tests were conducted on Sunday, but the results have yet to be disclosed.

Rahimi has been a headline figure not just at the Olympics. Recently, he played a pivotal role in Al-Ain’s triumphant AFC Champions League final in May. At 28, he seems to be reaching the zenith of his career, fully showcasing his talents. With interest reportedly coming from the Saudi Pro League, Rahimi’s outstanding performances in the Olympics add another highlight to his already impressive résumé.

Currently leading the scorer’s chart in Paris 2024 with three goals, two of which were from penalties, Rahimi is ahead of Paraguay’s Marcelo Fernandez, Japan’s Shunsuke Mito, and Iraq’s Ayman Husein, each with two goals. Another goal or two in the upcoming matches would not only solidify his position as the tournament’s top scorer but also further kindle interest in his future endeavors.

The Moroccan fans eagerly await updates on Rahimi’s condition, hoping their star can overcome his injury in time to make history in the final group stage match of the 2024 Olympics.
