Hakim Ziyech Reflects on Premier League Stint and Eyes Bright Future with Galatasaray
Hakim Ziyech, the Moroccan international now with Galatasaray, recently opened up about his time in the Premier League. Following a satisfactory loan spell, Galatasaray extended Ziyech’s contract. The winger took a moment to reflect on his previous tenure at Chelsea in England.
Despite a tough exit from Chelsea last summer, where he played a modest 929 minutes across 24 appearances and provided three assists, Ziyech harbors fond memories of the Premier League. In an interview with Nevzat Dindar, the 31-year-old admitted, “I’d rather say yes than no” when asked if he missed the Premier League. During his three-season stint in England from 2020 to 2023, Ziyech, former Ajax star, found European glory with Chelsea, winning the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
Nonetheless, Ziyech has found a new challenge in Turkey’s Süper Lig. He noted, “Before signing with Galatasaray, I had no idea about the league. But I can tell you it’s a more difficult and demanding league than I expected. It surprised me,” showing respect for his current competition.
Addressing rumors about a purported interest from Saudi Arabia before his contract extension with Galatasaray, Ziyech firmly denied receiving any offers from the Saudi Pro League. Instead, he used the opportunity to express his eagerness for the upcoming season with the Turkish champions.
“Honnestly, I am very excited about the new season. Regardless of what people say, what matters is my performance. I see it day by day and try to enjoy it. I will try to give my best this year as well,” declared Ziyech, signaling his commitment and drive for success.
