A 2022 World Cup Coach Signs with Botola!

Moroccan League Welcomes Former 2022 World Cup Coach

In a significant move for Moroccan football, AS FAR has announced the appointment of former 2022 World Cup coach Czeslaw Michniewicz as their new head coach. The club made the announcement on their official X account on Saturday evening, extending a warm welcome to Michniewicz and wishing him success in his new role. The Polish tactician has been out of work since leaving Abha Club in Saudi Arabia in October 2023, marking his first venture outside of his home country.

Michniewicz previously spent 11 months managing the Polish national team, from the end of January to December 2022. During his tenure, he guided the team to the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar, where they were defeated by France with a score of 3-1. In Rabat, he will be assisted by his compatriot Juszczak Gerard, who worked with him in Saudi Arabia, and Moroccan coach Barae Jorndi, who recently concluded his term as the head coach of the Philippines.

AS FAR’s official announcement also celebrated the arrival of the new technical staff, expressing optimism about their upcoming tasks with the team.

The club’s proactive approach follows a disappointing previous season, where they missed out on both the cup and the championship titles. The hiring of the 54-year-old coach is seen as the beginning of a transformative phase, spearheaded by Michniewicz’s recruitment policies. In addition to his hiring, AS FAR has also made a series of significant signings. These include Congolese players Henock Inonga Baka from Simba SC and Joël Beya from TP Mazembe, as well as Moroccan talents Anas Bach (ex-FUS Rabat), Akram Nakach (Union Touarga), Hicham Boussefiane (formerly Wydad AC), Youssef El Fahli (RS Berkane), and Mauritanian El Hassan Houeibib from Al-Zawraa SC in Iraq.

These new additions are expected to bolster the squad ahead of their upcoming challenges, particularly in the CAF Champions League.

With Michniewicz at the helm and a reinforced lineup, AS FAR is clearly setting the stage for what could be a promising season.
