By The Moroccan women’s national team is nearing qualification for the Paris Olympics after a crucial victory over Zambia in a thrilling encounter. The match, which took place on Friday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia as part of the fourth round of qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, ended with a score of 2-1 in favor of Morocco.
It was not an easy task for the Moroccan players who sought to dominate the midfield from the beginning, aiming to create scoring opportunities and put pressure on Zambia’s goalkeeper, Sakala. Despite their efforts, Ibtissam Jiradi failed to convert several available chances.
Morocco effectively secured their defense with standout performances from players like Arrah and Marabet. The team relied on quick counterattacks involving Imane Saoud and Fatima Taknaout, but they were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
In the 35th minute, the Cameroonian referee, Marin, awarded Zambia a penalty, which was missed by Briska due to an excellent save by Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija Rmichi.
In the second half, coach Vilda substituted Jiradi with Zraoui, and the Moroccan team opted to defend after Zambia equalized in the 80th minute through Lushomo.
However, in a decisive moment, substitute Rosella Ayan scored the winning goal for the Moroccan team, securing a valuable victory for the Lionesses. The match ended with Morocco’s women’s team taking a significant step towards Olympic qualification.
